How to write the NHS Supporting Information?

One of the most common questions we are usually asked is ‘How do I write the NHS Supporting Information?’

For those of you unfamiliar with what this is, it is essentially the way that the NHS will decide who will be invited to an interview. As such it is vital, that the supporting statement is well written in order to ensure an interview, and subsequently secure your dream job.

The main objective when writing a supporting statement is to demonstrate to the hiring manager why you are the best candidate for the job. Keep this in mind when writing your supporting statement.

We asked some of our writers, who have been writing NHS CV’s and Supporting Statements for over 10 years, what their top tips were for writing a great supporting statement. Here’s what they had to say:

  1. Talk about what skills and experience you have gained from previous jobs or training. Even if the jobs are very different, you will have always gained soft skills (e.g. communication and team work). These are always transferrable, and what the NHS is looking for.

  2. Mention any previous voluntary work, no matter how long ago you volunteered. This could have been in a hospital or any other setting. No matter where you have volunteered, this is a great way to show you will go above and beyond, a vital skill in the health service.

  3. Whilst mentioning all your qualities, it is vital you demonstrate how you meet all the essential skills, and most of the desirable skills on the person specification.
